Tech for Dummies: Where Did That Windows Notification Go?
A little message appeared in the corner of your computer screen. Before you finished reading it, it disappeared.
You probably did not lose it.
Windows 11 keeps many missed alerts in Notification Center. The quickest way to open it is to press Windows key + N. You can also select the clock or notification-bell area on the taskbar.
Inside, you may find email notices, calendar reminders, messages, application alerts, and other recent notifications.
Clicking a notification can open the app that sent it. Some notifications also have buttons that let you perform an action without opening the full program.
When you no longer need an alert, you can dismiss it. Windows also provides a Clear all option.
Why didn't mine appear there?
Not every program handles notifications identically, and something you deliberately cleared may no longer be available.
Also check whether Do Not Disturb is enabled. When it is, Windows normally sends non-priority notifications quietly to Notification Center instead of displaying their usual banners.
The useful shortcut to remember is simply:
Windows key + N = notifications.
You do not need to chase every little box before it disappears.
